The Canine Advisory Team (CAT) from MPK called for a meeting last week, to discuss several pressing issues.
The MPK will continue to assist the residents in rounding up and euthanizing stray dogs in Pulau Ketam, Klang as the residents have been complaining about the numbers of strays on the island.
Recently, the MPK also organized a forum about Responsible Pet Ownership. Unfortunately, the response from the public was not good. In the future they hope to send invitations to specific target groups e.g. registered dog owners, complainants, and animal activists.
The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) has also agreed to continue providing assistance to humanely euthanize the pound dogs to avoid overcrowding, spread of diseases and dog fighting.
The MPK also announced plans to have their pound workers sent for dog handling training, so they can handle the dogs better – reducing unnecessary stress and pain.
SPCA will have another spay/neuter campaign in Pulau Ketam in May 2011, for pets as well as strays.
